It is rather difficult to keep up more than one blog these days . . . so I am primarily going to focus on my original Alma Park Farm Blog.  I have knitting / dyeing / spinning items on there and it seems to appeal to a wider audience and has many more followers.  Please follow the link here  and become a follower.   I will occasionally post sales etc on this blog, but for the most part, if you want to see what's happening at the farm, store, fiber studio and what I am working on - please follow the Main Blog or AlmaPark.com

NJ Sheep and Wool Festival

We will be at the NJ Sheep and Wool Festival Sept 8-9, 2012. It is at the Hunterdon County Fairground in Lambertville NJ. Directions and maps on the festival site.

It is a great festival full of great vendors and community. Over 60 vendors are currently on the list. We will be in barn #4.

How to knit a rug

I make and sell rug yarn that is spun over a cotton core for strength and durability. 100 yd approx bump will knit a rug approx 2ft x 3ft. It is very easy to knit a rug with this yarn - so here is a quick little pattern to help you get started. Interested in purchasing the yarn ? You will find it at my store HERE.

Rug Yarn Bump - 100% alpaca over cotton core - dyed

US#50 needles or larger

- Cast on 20 stitches

- Knit one row
- *Slip first stitch (as if to purl with yarn in front), knit 19 stitches*
- Repeat * until you have either reached desired length or you have about 5 yards left
- Bind off loosely
- Weave in ends

Point Pleasant Farmers Market - starting Sunday June 26th 10am-2pm

Alma Park Alpacas and the yarn shop at Alma Park will be at the PPB Farmer's market every Sunday this summer. We will have yarn, fiber, spinning supplies, roving, crafts and more. Demos on combing, carding, spinning and knitting, felting will be going on all day. Come join us - stop by and learn something, chat about alpacas or purchase some luscious yarn and fiber.

Spin One Get One

Just formed a new Facebook Group to bring Fiber Growers and Spinners together.  The concept is simple. . .  bring fiber growers and spinners together. The concept is simple - if you have fleece/roving/top etc that you want spun - put out a post. A spinner who is interested should post or email you. You spin a pound for the grower and you keep the other pound for yourself.  Smaller or larger quantities is allowed.  Also - if you have raw fleece that needs prep and you are a grower - you may want to offer the spinner a little more.  It is an honor system, but I think it is a great idea!!    If you are a spinner - please post in the group as well that you are available!

It is entry #251 and the description is :
This purse is knitted from 100% brown and black alpaca yarn using our own exclusive fiber. The purse is an original design and combines mitered squares which are attached to give the purse interest and depth of texture. The handle is several knitted i-cords wrapped around cotton roping and braided for strength. The purse is lined with a coordinating cotton fabric for strength and protection of the knitted purse. 
  
The yarn is 100% alpaca made from fiber from our own animals!! Balthasar and Brandy.

Free Pattern - "Uh Oh I need a Gift Scarf"

Uh Oh I need a Gift Scarf  by  Rose Mogerman

© 2010-2011 Rose Mogerman This pattern is copyrighted.  Please do not photocopy pattern, use pictures or sell pattern.   



Materials: any yarn, chunky or 2 strands held together of bulky, or 3 strands of worsted.
About 65 yds of chunky.  Double or triple that if holding strands together. 
Gauge – not important.
Size - Approx 5 inches wide by 65 inches long without fringe.
Needles - US 35 knitting needles straights
Cast on 7 sts

Row 1:  Slip 1 knit wise, *p1, k1*; repeat 2 times

Repeat Row 1 for every row until you either run out of yarn (keeping some for a fringe – about 4 yds)  or the scarf measures 65 inches

Bind off loosely in pattern.

Weave in the ends each strand separately.

Cut about 6 inch strands of yarn (10 needed) and using a crochet hook loop the yarn into each end of the scarf to make a fringe.

Fiber Fiber Everywhere!!

So I set a goal on Feb 1st, that my fiber storage area would be completely cleaned out and empty by shearing day in May.  My new assistant, Maria, and I have been furiously working on skirting, grading and deciding what I will be doing with the fiber (yarn, sock yarn, rug yarn, felted sheets, rugs etc).    Since I set that goal, we have managed to get through 200 pounds of fiber!!!  No small task considering there was 2 snow storms, a lost weekend to absolute freezing temps and Maria only works PT on the weekends!

The best part is that I already shipped all this out and we have already skirted through about 40 more pounds to be going out next week !!

We do a huge yarn business both with commercial yarn and our farm yarns, so I am excited that we have this much out for processing because I am booking events like mad and am hoping that we get into the Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival in October.  We have a hard time keeping our farm yarn in stock as it is a local favorite!!

Shearing is May 21, and with approx 800 more pounds to go  - I think we can do it !!!
